Mood/Style:
an excursion to Kenya had opened Albert Kriemler’s senses for his A/W 16 collection. Gone were his signature cool colour palette and clean-cut Swiss shapes in favour of sunny hues of orange and red, animal prints and African folklore detailing. Mono-coloured tangerine ribbed knits, tailored trousers and high -collar shearling gilets introduced the collection, accompanied by the lyrics “orange - the silly old colour that lives next to red!”. Aubergine and chocolate soon took over with turtle, cheetah and zebra prints that came alive on tunics, jersey dresses and split-level skirts. Pebbled leather that was to resemble elephant skin and an antelope fur jacket reminded us of life on the savanna, suddenly a lifestyle up for sale from a runway in the Grand Palais. Animal kingdom aside, Kriemler had also incorporated traditional, African artisanal jewellery in the shape of multiple Masai bangles and leather colliers. We have seen African-themed shows before, but what struck us with Kriemler’s vision was his ability to inject themes and pieces that easily can be snapped up by the fashion-sensitive crowd. From the one-coloured looks (a big trend this fall) to the practical trapeze-shaped shoulder bags and just classic sportswear feel, he made Africa feel closer than ever before.
