Moda Operandi hosted an exclusive preview of their newest designers to be introduced to their The Platform scheme, an initiative founded by the online retailer to offer mentoring, marketing resources and sales opportunities to new, emerging talents.
First up to walk us through her FW 2018-19 collection; Yeon founded by Korean Yeon Park who formerly lended her expertise to Proenza Schouler and Thakoon. Inspired by a trip to Korfu, her collection of dainty dresses and separates ‘whispers, rather than shouts’ with sophisticated fabrics and sunny palettes.
The stunning Eleanor Balfour took us through her eponymous brand where she proudly introduced her vegan leather trench with a removable collar featuring ridiculously-real looking faux fur. Emphasizing the importance of resort collections and sustainability, stylist and Vanity Fair contributing editor Elizabeth Saltzman who was also present, nodded in agreement and seemed to really enjoy what she was seeing.
Over to New York-based Alexandra O’Neil, founder of Markarian, a brand named after her fascination with astrology. Indeed, this passion was reflected all over the collection; embroidered glittering galaxies adorning silky sleeves and celestial symbols on forget-me-not dresses. A definite rising star in other words.
The emerging, Ukrainian fashion scene has been making a lot of noise lately, with Lake Studio tuning in with their local craftsmanship techniques made modern. Designer Anastasia Riboken explained how her muse has a need to show off both her feminine side with silky, two-way wearable slip dresses in muted hues, and masculine counterpart; wide-shouldered, heavy, Savile Row: ish blazers.
Blurring the lines between the two with the addition of Slavic influences; enter a modern Anna Karenina ready to take the short side at the boardroom table.
